We know tairn bonded to naolin who fought for navarre during the rebellion. Now tairn is bonded to violet and chose her already knowing he would fight for the new rebellion since he is mated to sgaeyl. There are several moments throughout the end of onyx storm that support this theory, but one of the more convincing is knowing xaden and sgaeyl's plan for the future involves needing tairn's agreement. In the final chapter, violet notes her bond with tairn feels foggy, almost like he's asleep. The letter says they must choose to abandon the village of their enemy or the command of their wing.
